Usually once a week they burn the "waste". When walking home from work you can't help but notice a large dark plume, affectionately termed the "Bucca Poop Cloud". We always pray for a nicer easterly wind to blow it away, but when there is none the cloud settles down...all around us...into the nostrils...living up to its name.

Here are some pictures of the Bucca Poop Cloud contrasted against the setting sun...very dramatic.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_WG2CYDP7B8A/SY3zemEN97I/AAAAAAAAAd0/4CWIsy7BXQg/s320/IMG_5180.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5300160043424806834" />

"Bucca Poop Cloud is coming for you"
"Bucca Poop Cloud has you in view"
"Bucca Poop Cloud won't be denied"
"You better run and you better hide"
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_WG2CYDP7B8A/SY3zeN4htmI/AAAAAAAAAds/L4Rugkj8Cgc/s320/IMG_5178.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5300160036933318242" />

The Collector...

My roommate or podmate or whatever you want to call him is a very nice guy, very courteous and easy to have as a roomie, HOWEVER, he likes to scavenge. He likes to collect. He likes to rummage. He tells me that everyday he takes a different route home from work should he come across something that has been cast aside that he might want to collect. And lately he has been collecting things to make a barrier in front of our pod to discourage passers-by to not step on our porch or walk on the gravel directly by our pod as that makes noise and makes it difficult for us to sleep.

Here you can see the corner of my pod, it has a walkway that would cause quite a bit of noise as people walked by (crunchy rocks/gravel).
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_WG2CYDP7B8A/SY3qRGY3WpI/AAAAAAAAAc8/k987CCYhhfQ/s320/IMG_5170.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5300149915978521234" />

The Great Wall of BOB. Here you can see how talented Bob is as a scavenger. He found a 4 by 4 piece of lumbar to block off the way. Then somehow he found a traffic cone? Are you kidding me? I asked him, "Bob, where did you find a cone?". His reply, "Oh, I found myself a cone." Well, if people didn't understand the message with a 4 by 4 blocking the way and the cone, BOB made it clear by taping on a sign to warn off intruders. Needless to say this thouroughfare has been shut down by Bob the Builder :). Now what to do about the crunchy rocks/gravel that wake us up when people pass..... stay tuned
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_WG2CYDP7B8A/SY3qRT5NrDI/AAAAAAAAAdM/c5_aQt4bVw4/s320/IMG_5172.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5300149919603862578" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_WG2CYDP7B8A/SY3qRPSx-GI/AAAAAAAAAdE/ptLg0JIdkP4/s320/IMG_5171.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5300149918368921698" />

As you can see from the first picture and this picture, Bob was able to come up with another solution to the crunchy rock problem. He was walking home and noticed that some carpets were in a dumpster...so he dove in! He scored some excellent rugs that he lined up down the walkway to muffle the sounds of footsteps, but there was one problem....

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_WG2CYDP7B8A/SY3qw-ngtVI/AAAAAAAAAdk/ATyVmlb2gs8/s320/IMG_5190.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5300150463648281938" />

....People liked his dumpster diving rugs and someone stole one or two of them, which prompted immediate action. First, Bob posted signs to ward off potential thieves by appealing to their sense of Integrity. Even after the posting another one of his rugs was taken, but somehow Bob managed to find replacements while out on his meanderings or walk abouts. Most recently Bob has been collecting sand bags and stacking them on his rugs to dissuade those "rats" (said in his best Rhode Island accent).
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_WG2CYDP7B8A/SY3qRu_H5YI/AAAAAAAAAdc/0rFc1VgitzQ/s320/IMG_5177.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5300149926876407170" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_WG2CYDP7B8A/SY3qRnoOFOI/AAAAAAAAAdU/jFabCAf0sEs/s320/IMG_5176.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5300149924901295330" />

Wall of Talent....from the Larson Youngin's

Having artistic leanings myself, it brings me great jubilation to receive the artistic endeavors of my chillin's. I had fun today Skyping with the family. It was Christmas Eve in Utah while Christmas morning here. I finally got to open that box that said "Do no open til Christmas". I'll admit it has been difficult being separated from the family, especially during this time of year, but I'm thankful that we are able to still have pictures and sound that can bring us a little bit closer together. I'm thankful for the Savior whose birth we celebrate and for His atonement, that can bring us together forever despite time and distance.

Here is the Christmas tree at the DFAC. They have a stereo blasting the Christmas tunes as well. Pretty Cool.

It's Christmas Day here at the TMC and we've had a few guests dressed in red come through. Apparently when it rains the sand becomes a sticky, slimy mess. So they cover 90 percent of the Camp with these rocks. Not gravel, but pretty good sized rocks that the soldiers have to walk around on. I see more people in clinic who have sprained their ankles or aggravated existing injuries because of these rocks. They shift underneath you and it feels like you're walking on ball bearings. There are these little pathways that form where people have pushed the rocks to the side to afford better traction. I guess when the rains come we'll be happy we have the rocks, but for know they're a pain.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_WG2CYDP7B8A/SVMe_2l8eSI/AAAAAAAAAU0/AyDC94prbuA/s320/The+ROCKS!.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5283600870170982690" />

Bucca Basics

This is Camp Bucca's Morale Welfare and Recreation (MWR) tent. As an artist of sorts I appreciated a few of these, so I included some here. Some of the art was quite good. Of course these are tough soldiers who need to convey lethality/power in their artwork so these pictures may not be suitable for small children (not really, I filtered the scary ones). They tend to have a variety of skulls accenting most of the pieces here...very intimidating. There were a few units from Tennessee that did stick figures which weren't worthy of this blog.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_WG2CYDP7B8A/SU51_OqurQI/AAAAAAAAARE/hDFACnCQWIA/s320/barrier+art+5.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5282289142081694978" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_WG2CYDP7B8A/SU51_KT9l6I/AAAAAAAAAQ8/PtLnJO-aqX4/s320/barrier+art+4.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5282289140912461730" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_WG2CYDP7B8A/SU51-eAfWnI/AAAAAAAAAQ0/S-JymNwNNfs/s320/barrier+art+3.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5282289129019628146" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_WG2CYDP7B8A/SU51-NkAmXI/AAAAAAAAAQs/-KAZ65SFyco/s320/barrier+art+2.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5282289124605204850" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_WG2CYDP7B8A/SU51-C-kHiI/AAAAAAAAAQk/akExmQbX6dQ/s320/barrier+art+1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5282289121763794466" />

They gave us training on the same software we use everyday at my work at Ft. Before I deployed I heard about these amazing DFACs in country and I'd have to agree most of them are pretty impressive. The sheer volume of food is amazing. They have all of the 50 state's flags hanging along the entryway so of course I got a pic with Utah's. There are red, white and blue banners everywhere and patriotic themed pictures aplenty. You would get the impression that they are happy that we are here. They hire a lot of people from India to work in these DFACs. They wear their sharp uniforms with pride and seem to be happy with the work.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_WG2CYDP7B8A/SU5tiK_lA9I/AAAAAAAAAP0/KRgFU9fqiIo/s320/Utah+flag+at+DFAC.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5282279846786171858" />

It so happened to be Veteren's Day while I was in Camp Beuhring. They have a fun tradition there of having a welcome crew out to welcome soldiers who arrive there for a layover as they get off the plane. I remember seeing newsclips about these folks that get up in the middle of the night to do this. Vets, boyscouts and various other organizations all participate. They take your picture and post it on a website so families can see their soldiers while they travel. They shook all of our hands whilst saying thank you. It made you feel downright good. Very Impressive.

We did lots of fun stuff at CRC. We put the famous Army mantra "hurry up and wait" to the test and it came through with flying colors. Lots of standing in line, lots of doing redundant things, redundant things, redundant things...Lots of bus rides all over the place and lots of lectures. We did do some fun outdoorsy stuff like qualify with the 9mm Beretta at the range. I did pretty well and scored a "sharpshooter" mark, not quite an expert, but the next level down. The targets were pop up targets and you had to shoot them before they went down. Talking with others, I did better than most, but then I've always wanted to be a cowboy.

This way to the 9mm range!!

                                                  Go ahead, make my day! Look at the fear in the eyes of the man next to me.

I didn't tell anyone about my "special hand gun"

One of Ft.
